Start or continue a holiday tradition by visiting a neighborhood where each resident decorates their Portland home for Christmas every year. This neighborhood, located in the southeastern part of Portland between SE Stark Street and SE Belmont Street and one block east of SE 39th, is truly a sight to see. Bring the whole family to view twinkling lights, Santa, Frosty, and Rudolph replicas, nativity scenes, spinning Christmas trees, and anything else these Portland home owners can cook up.
It is best to view the lights on foot, as the area can become quite crowded. Park a few blocks away and walk over. If you would like to come view the lights from your car, it is best to come view them at a day and time that is not as popular such as before 7 p.m. or after 10 p.m. The lights are available for viewing from December 15th until December 31st from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. Pedestrian only nights are December 18th, 19th, and 20th. Cocoa and cider are available each night for the visitors at no charge. Donations can be made at the booth to benefit a local charity. One of the best things about this event is that these are just regular metro Portland real estate owners who decided to decorate their homes and allow others to come view them and get into the holiday spirit. This is not a commercial event, just good old family fun. Visit Peacock Lane to find out more.
