New Development in Portland: Five Unique Projects

If you’ve spent any time in Portland in the last couple of years, you’ve probably seen the abundance of construction happening. Portland is booming, and there seems like there’s a new project popping up every single day.

Taking inspiration from Next Portland’s extensive map of upcoming and ongoing construction projects, we’ve gone through and selected a few of the more interesting projects that are under construction or soon to be that are helping to shape the future of an ever expanding Portland.

James Beard Public Market Portland

James Beard Public Market

Portland native James Beard’s legacy is known throughout the food world, and the The Historic Portland Public Market Foundation has been working for over a decade to conceive their vision of a flagship public market that showcases the wealth of food farmed and produced right here in Portland that James Beard loved so much. The market will be located at the west end of the Morrison Bridge on Naito Parkway. Unfortunately for food lovers, the project won’t break ground until 2018.

Oregon Square New Development in Portland

Oregon Square

The Oregon Square development is looking to radically change the face of the neighborhood. The development will add over 900 brand new apartments, with the cornerstone building of the development being the largest building east of the Willamette in Oregon. The developers aren’t just adding the buildings to the area either, they’re also adding over 100,000 square feet of open space. Adding a vast amount of open space to a densely populated area of the city will certainly be a welcome addition.

Framework project wood building portland

Framework

The Pearl District has probably undergone the most significant transformation in Portland over recent years, but nothing will be as radical as Framework, the first tall timber structure in Portland. Using cross laminated timber to build the frame of the building, the firms behind the building are hoping the building will be on the forefront of green skyscraper design in the nation. Framework will consist of a mix of office space as well as low income housing.

Under Armor Portland Campus

Taking over the former Metro Family YMCA space, Under Armor hopes to make their mark in the Pacific Northwest with a beautiful new office space.
