Sellwood borders the strikingly similar Westmoreland. The main commercial area of Sellwood runs along SE 13
th Ave to SE Tacoma and then up and down SE 17
th Ave. About a dozen restaurants are located on SE 13

Gino’s excellent Italian cuisine,
Mekong Vietnamese Grill’s tasty and reasonably priced creations, and
Eleni’s authentic Greek dishes.
Ugly Mug Coffeehouse is known as a kid-friendly coffeehouse with great coffee and treats. On SE 17
th Ave and the Busy Bee café is located inside
Abundant Yarn and Dyeworks. One of New Seasons’ popular local grocery stores is located on SE Tacoma. The Sellwood Bridge connects this part of southeast Portland with the western part of Multnomah County and Clackamas County. The debate over whether to build a new bridge and what it would look like has been raging for years. Discussions are ongoing.Home types in Sellwood are similar to the rest of Portland including bungalows, English styles, and the occasional ranch. Llewellyn Elementary is rated as exceptional. The remaining elementary, middle, and high schools are rated between strong and satisfactory by the Oregon Department of Education. There is no typical resident here. Families, college students, professionals, and many couples live in these environs. Almost 60% of residents own their own home. The
Sellwood-Moreland library, a Multnomah County branch, began as a reading room in 1905. Its now located in a mixed-use facility on SE 13
th. This location offers programs for kids and adults of all ages.
Garthwick is a tiny and exclusive community in southeast Portland. About 100 homes comprise this private, serene enclave. The homes are located around the Waverly Country Club, a private golf and country club opened in 1896. These homes are within walking distance of Sellwood’s shops and restaurants, but incredibly private nonetheless. Large square footage and large yards are abundant. There are over 300 acres of parks and open space in Sellwood and nearby Westmoreland. On the banks of the Willamette River, 140-acre
Oaks Park contains an old time amusement park, trails, picnic space, and a natural wildlife area. The wildlife area is a popular destination for bird watchers and bicyclists. During summer, the city of Portland holds a weekly concert series in the main park area.Bus lines from Sellwood and nearby Westmoreland run north-south on SE 17
th, SE Milwaukie, and SE 13
th. The 41 bus line runs east-west along SE Tacoma starting at SE 13
th and then north along Highway 99E. No bus service runs across the Sellwood Bridge.
